Narcotics on the island of Bermuda is big business for some. The extent of the problem can be gauged from what, in the late 90’s, was described as ‘the largest and most serious crimes of conspiracy, drug trafficking, and money laundering ever conducted in the Bermuda Police Service’ (read more here). This matter also indicates the island’s attitude to pursuing those involved … attempts to have the matter thoroughly investigated were in vain.
A recent report conveys what appears to be a lamentable confiscation of crime proceeds over the past 3 years … just $200,000 from 5 suspects i.e. just under $70,000 / annum – did this even cover the cost of those involved from the Bermuda Police ‘Specialist Investigations Unit’?
