It is apparently not uncommon for firearms officers to patrol in Bermuda.
The operational response to the shooting is under the name ‘Athelstan’. Historians will likely associate this name with the notorious King of Kings (UK) who came to power in 925AD. A notable event during his reign was how opposition was handled at the bloody Battle of Brunanburh; an Anglo-Saxon Chronicle tells how Athelstan’s victorious army pursues the beaten (Scots and Vikings) and kills them mercilessly.
A curious operational name.
Possibly ‘Operation Alfred’ would have been more fitting; Athelstan’s grandfather, Alfred the Great, had a reputation as a learned and merciful man, level-headed who sought to improve education, the legal system and his people’s quality of life.
